OSONA VALLÈS CARNS, S.A. (OSVACA)
It was set up in November 1995 and its main activity is dealing in, rearing, fattening and slaughtering cattle. Our headquarters is at the Sabadell Abattoir, Carrer Costa i Déu, 113, Sabadell, and the company is established largely in the Vallès and Osona areas, although we are gradually moving into València, Madrid and Italy. Osvaca was born from the merger of three companies which knew the meat sector at different levels:
PRODUCTION AND FATTENING DEPARTMENT
One of our company’s main objectives is to be able to give customers quality meat. In order to do this, we have opted to rear and fatten the animals on our own farms. We currently have twenty-five or our own farms, dotted around the Barcelona, Lleida and Aragon areas.
On these farms between 7,000 and 7,500 calves are fattened and slaughtered in our abattoir to provide our customers with the best quality meat.
The animals arrive on our farms at about 60 kilos and are reared by us, with their health monitored, for about nine months. In this time they reach a weight of between 240 and 260kg, the weight required for sending them for slaughter.
In general we fatten male Friesian calves and Belgian Blue females. To ensure the quality we like, we base the food of these animals on cereals to our own nutritional formula, which makes our product reliable and homogenous.
SLAUGHTER AND MEAT SALES DEPARTMENT
Once the cattle have been slaughtered at our abattoir in Sabadell, this department takes charge of selling and distributing the meat. A large proportion of the meat we sell comes from our farms, although sometimes we buy it in bulk, making sure it follows a line very similar to our own.
The distribution of the meat is carried out in split carcases or quarters and it is delivered in the province of Barcelona, the Balearic Islands, the Valencian Community and in the Madrid area.Part is also exported to Italy.
COMMERCIAL DEPARTMENT
This department is in charge of buying suckler calves which can be used in our farms and also by other customers. These are normally slaughtered once we have fattened them. It also serves the abattoir, selling live calves for slaughter.
