OSONA VALLÉS CARNS, S.A. (OSVACA)
It was set up in November 1995 and its
main activity is dealing in, rearing, fattening and slaughtering cattle.
Our headquarters is at the Sabadell Abattoir, Carrer Costa i Déu,
113, Sabadell, and the company is established largely in the Vallès
and Osona areas, although we are gradually moving into València,
Madrid and Italy.
Osvaca was born from the merger
of three companies which knew the meat sector at different levels:
- Ramadera la Vall del Tenes, SL which was
dedicated to acquiring, rearing and fattening calves and supplying
them for slaughter.
- Carns Granollers, SA which slaughtered young
cattle at the Granollers abattoir and distributed them to small butchers.
- Pitança, SA, specialising in
the buying, selling and production of pork.
In this way
Osvaca was born and began great activity trading in young cattle
and meat, and also increasing the number of farms included in the company.
With the volume of production reached, the Board of Directors was encouraged
to go ahead with buying the Escorxador Sabadell SA in January 1998, an
abattoir with a capacity for slaughtering 500 young cattle a day - approximately
120,000kg of meat.Since then its headquarters has been in Sabadell.
In July 2001 the company Pitança, SA. sold its shares, which were
bought by the four partners who currently lead the company.
The Osona Vallès Carns, S.A.
is divided into three parts:
a) Production and fattening department.
b) Slaughter and meat sales department.
c) Commercial department.
Production and fattening department.
One of our company's main objectives is
to be able to give customers quality meat. In order to do this, we have
opted to rear and fatten the animals on our own farms.
We currently have twenty-five or our own farms, dotted around the Barcelona,
Lleida and Aragon areas.
On these farms between 7,000 and 7,500 calves are fattened and slaughtered
in our abattoir to provide our customers with the best quality meat.
The animals arrive on our farms at about 60 kilos and are reared by us,
with their health monitored, for about nine months. In this time they reach
a weight of between 240 and 260kg, the weight required for sending them
for slaughter.
In general we fatten male Friesian calves and Belgian Blue females.
To ensure the quality we like, we base the food of these animals on cereals
to our own nutritional formula, which makes our product reliable and homogenous.
Slaughter and meat sales department.
Once the cattle have been slaughtered at
our abattoir in Sabadell, this department takes charge of selling and
distributing the meat. A large proportion of the meat we sell comes from
our farms, although sometimes we buy it in bulk, making sure it follows
a line very similar to our own.
The distribution of the meat is carried out in split carcases or quarters
and it is delivered in the province of Barcelona, the Balearic Islands,
the Valencian Community and in the Madrid area.Part is also exported to
Italy.
Commercial department
This department is in charge of buying
suckler calves which can be used in our farms and also by other customers.
These are normally slaughtered once we have fattened them. It also serves
the abattoir, selling live calves for slaughter.
