The company Escorxador
Sabadell, S.A. was set up in July 1985. The initial capital was
2,400,000 pesetas, of which 60% belonged to Sabadell City Council and
40% to butchers and users of the old abattoir.
The abattoir was built through contributions from Sabadell City Council
coming from subsidies from the Barcelona provincial government's agriculture
department.
The facilities were equipped for offering slaughter and refrigerated storage
services for cattle, sheep, goats, horses and pigs.
The new facilities at C.Costa i Deu, 113, started operating from September
1987 and by January 1988 all production was being carried out at the new
facilities.
In 1989 the capital was increased to 202,100,000 pesetas,of which 93.3%
was from the Council and 6.7% from the facility users.
The company was always managed as a private rather than a municipal company.
In 1991 the EEC passed the' Escorxador Sabadell,
SA facilities for slaughtering livestock from the intra-community
market.
Work always went on to improve the facilities. So, in 1995 there was a
complete refurbishment of the gutting area, adapting it to current market
needs and providing it with more modern machinery.
In 1998 a new cold store was built.
During these years, the abattoir's normal production steadily increased.
In January 1998, Sabadell City Council sold its entire shareholding to
the company Osona Vallès Carns, SA,
a company already established in the beef sales sector.
Escorxador Sabadell, SA has continued
to offer its services to businesses in the sector, always trying to offer
a quality service, which is why it has continued to work to adapt and
modernise the facilities.
Escorxador Sabadell, SA is currently
extending the facilities: a second stable building, two new cold stores,
completely new sheep and cattle slaughter lines, refurbishment of the
gutting area, staff changing rooms and offices. The pig line has been eliminated.
Once this ambitious extension and facility renovation scheme is complete,
this company will be close to the top of Spanish abattoir production.
